Camp Russell 2002

For all the scouts who didn't make it out to Camp Russell this year they missed an excellent weekend of fun on McCauley Mountain. The skiing conditions on the left side of the mountain were fairly icy in the morning but became reasonable once it warmed up later in the day. On the right side on the mountain, many of the Scouts could be found in the terrain park pulling jaw-dropping eye-catching captivating aerial tricks. Everyone walked away from the slope unharmed except for a few broken bones (just kidding) and plenty of stories for when they would arrive back home. We had some newcomers on the trip this year, one might expect they might need a full day of lessons, but once we showed them the basics they were cruising as fast as anyone else, even going off some jumps. My guess is they will be beating me down the slope next year if they continue to progress so fast!

Eventually the day of skiing came to an end, but the fun didn't end there. Once arriving back at camp many of the scouts could be found playing various card games and tricks. Once curfew came about, the scouts retired to their sleeping bags. Only for some of the more daring scouts, their sleeping bags were outside in the lean-tos where it was quite cold, but not for these scouts who had the right equipment. All in all, in this editor's opinion it was quite a successful scout outing as it is every year, hopefully next year we will see more scouts there.
