Cobra Campout-October 19-21
The Cobra sponsored campout was located at Camp Cutler in Naples. The weekend was filled with lashing activities, sports and good cooking. Saturday started out with the flag ceremony at 9:00. From there, Mike and Chris took them to the sports field. There the scouts played soccer, capture the flag and ultimate football. Fun was had by all but eventually it was time to stop. While the kids were having fun, Jim and Fred were loading spars onto a trailer for the next activity, CATAPULTS.This occurred after lunch and a brief rest period. Each patrol successfully built a working catapult that was then used in a distance contest. The Moose patrol had the farthest distance with the water balloon. They received a travel size tube of toothpaste and every kid and adult received at least one fun-sized Milky Way for their participation. This event was far from over because at the end it was time to chase Mr. Kanaley with the water balloons and make him the cleanest scout on the property. After the kids ran halfway around camp they returned and took apart the catapults. Next came a hike led by G.S. that took them through a scenic portion of camp. All the scouts were then off till 8:30 which was the campfire. Accompanying the campfire was a cracker barrel consisting of cheese, crackers, chips and pepperoni. Since their remained too much food it was established that in order to leave to go to bed it was necessary to take some food. It was like in a dream that when the scouts returned to their campsite most went to bed and fell right asleep. Mission was accomplished. Sunday started off bad with rain, rain and more rain. This damped the cleanup effort and rushed the church service, which was held in a downpour. All in all it was a successful campout and to many it was filled with fun and learning experiences in cooking and scout skills.
