Seabase 1999

The Boy Scouts of Troop 10 are back from a week at Sea Base. Sea Base is a High Adventure Boy Scout Camp located on Islamorada, in the Florida Keys. There were 25 Boy Scouts and 10 leaders that attended this week full of tropical adventures.

One group of boys participated in the Scuba Adventure Camp. They went on 9 open water dives, the most exciting of which was a deep-water dive down to the depth of over 60 feet. Most of these dives took place off of a two masted schooner. This group also was able to experience a night dive. The other group of boys focused on life closer to the surface, the Keys Adventure Camp. They snorkeled, tried deep-sea fishing and night fishing, ocean kayaking, overnight ocean camping and snorkeling at night with flashlights.

The leaders and Scouts had a wonderful time learning about life under the sea. In addition to the hands-on experiences of the marine world, the boys enjoyed special cook-outs and volleyball games on the sand. There were day visits to the Dolphin Research Center, a trip to Key West and other historic places. They were even able to visit some of the original pirate islands!

Sea Base cost the Troop approximately $38,000. The boys raised all of the money themselves. This once in a lifetime experience was made possible by the hundreds of community supporters who donated clothing, had cars washed, bought flower bulbs and pizza cards, attended garage sales and spaghetti dinners, etc! WE THANK YOU!
