Swimming Merit badge
On two consecutive Mondays in March about a dozen boys ventured to the high school pool where they stroked, splashed, and kicked their way to the BSA Swimming merit badge. Congratulations to all and many thanks to Mr. Kanaley and Mr. Dekar for their expert coaching and guidance. So when you hear someone say these guys are all wet, maybe it refers to swimming???Back to top

New Scouts in Troop 10
Over the past few weeks we've been visited at our Monday meetings by 3 groups of Webelos II boys who are ready to cross over to Boy Scouts. A total of 19 boys in three groups have come to see what Troop 10 is all about and we look forward to welcoming them officially in April and May. During that time a meeting will be planned for their parents, to help them understand the advancement process, the patrol method and other aspects of scouting and Troop 10. We are looking forward to adding new Assistant Scoutmasters to our ranks as well as getting a few more parent volunteers in our Committee.Back to top
New youth leaders of Troop 10
The current group of Troop and Patrol leaders have nearly completed six months of service and at recent meetings new patrols were formed as well as new youth leaders selected. Beginning in May, our new leaders will be:Senior Patrol Leaders: Nick D., Steve T.
Asst. Senior P. L.: Fred C., Jim K.
Quartermaster: Mike C.
Troop Scribe: Dan K.
Troop Historian: Adam W.
Troop Guides: Jeremy S., Chris M., Brian F., Cam J.
In addition to the leaders, new patrols were selected with input from the boys so they are grouped with their friends. Four patrols of existing scouts and two patrols of new boys will become active and continue through the summer and until the end of October. Over the next two or three meetings they will be selecting their patrol leaders and starting to plan some activities for the coming weeks. Two or three dads have been assigned to each patrol to provide coaching and support. We are expecting the patrols to be more active in planning and organizing camping and other activities. If your son is selected for a patrol leadership position (patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, patrol quartermaster, patrol scribe) you will be receiving some information to help you understand his role and how you can support him in his efforts to gain and further develop his leadership skills.

Benefit basketball game
Great fun was had by players and spectators at the Basketball Game between HF-L faculty and the Buffalo Bills retirees on January 23rd. A close game, finally won by the Bills, had many thrilling moments. Troop 10 boys were treated to a pizza dinner at the Scout House afterwards with the Bills players and their families. Thanks to the Matt and Richards families for making it happen!Back to top
Thanks to current leadership
For the past 6 months our troop has been led by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic boys. Many thanks to our SPL's, Mike C. and Devon C.; our ASPL's, Nick D. and Steve T.; our Quartermaster, Chris C.; our Scribe Mike C.; our Historian, Dan K.; our Troop Guides, Fred C. and Jim K.; and Den Chief Chris M. All the boys have worked hard and have grown in their leadership abilities. Thanks!!Back to top

Camp Russell
Thirty eight boys & dads attended a great weekend at Camp Russell at the end of February. Thanks to the Paul C. and his boys for getting there early to warm up the hall; to Nick and Charlie for taking care of the food; and to Steve and Mr. T. for making all the arrangements! Saturday was a bright sunny day in Old Forge and despite a bit of ice on the slopes, a fun time was had by all, and with no injuries (at least none that a few Advils wouldn't cure!!) It's pretty obvious why this is such a favorite of the boys and dads alike!Back to top
Scoutmaster Scribbles
The patrol method is the heartbeat of the scouting program. It has been proven to be the best way to run a troop; according to our founder, Baden-Powell, the only way. Smaller groups of boys, usually friends, elect their own leadership, plan their activities and the patrol, as a team, learns together. We've just started a process to have our patrols be more active and you'll be seeing more patrol activities and events that may not include the entire troop. This should bring us several advantages; more camping and activities, more opportunities for advancement, greater development of leadership skills among the boys, and generally more fun for all. Talk to your son about his patrol, what they're doing, what he's doing. Take a pulse and check the heartbeat of Troop 10!!Back to top
