Massaweepie a success!!
A total of 33 boys and 10 adults attended "Massaweepie" Adirondack Scout Camp the last week of July. Together we earned the following:58 merit badges; 2 new BSA lifeguards; 3 completed snorkeling program; 3 Mountain Fox participants completed a 50 mile bike ride; 5 white water rafters on the Black River; 3 new Polar Bears, 5 Order of the Arrow Candidates inducted; 0 broken bones or stitches!!! Comments from the boys ranged from "awesome" to "really cool" ;there were several comments about good food, good toilets, a good hike (3 times a day!), good activities and good leaders/counselors. Congratulations to all the participants, and special thanks to Chris and Mike Monnat for continuously great leadership !!!

Southco Picnic
On August 5, 41 Troop 10 scouts, scouters and parents worked 172 hours at the Southco Annual Picnic. Unlimited quantities of hots and hamburgs were grilled to perfection and enjoyed by several hundred Southco employees and their families. A great compliment was paid to all by a grandfather who raved "These young boys are very well mannered and are really helping out!!". Congratulations to all for a great demonstration of SCOUT SPIRIT !!!Back to top
From Rome to Poland
Delta Lake near Rome was the location of the Troop 10 leader's campout and planning session. Nine adults camped, canoed and cooked their way to a great time. Ask Mr. Kanaley and Mr. Monnat about getting caught in irons !!! An afternoon of strong paddling against the wind was followed by a leisurely float down the West Canada Creek to Poland. The team agreed on some goals and activities to make 2000-2001 another great year of scouting for Troop 10.Back to top
Car Show

Charlie takes the Chair
Charlie Dekar has graciously accepted the position of Committee Chair, taking over from Eric Muench's many years of superb support. We're in good hands!!Back to top
JLTC
GS Bixler, Byron Liedkte, Stephen Miller and Adam Williamson spent a week this summer at the Junior Leadership Training Conference at Cutler. New leadership skills, camping and skills programs, and events programs were the highlights of their experience as was life in the patrol. Their week at JLTC was sponsored by the troop and we look forward to participating with them as they continue to expand their leadership skills!!Back to top
Eagle Court of Honor
Fred, Chris and Michael Collard will be honored with the rank of Eagle in a 'triple-triplet' ceremony at the Scout House at 7 PM on Wednesday, September 20.Full class A uniforms please!!!

Court of Awards and Board of Review
Our first awards ceremony will be September 25 and a board of review is scheduled September 19. Boys are advised to complete partial merit badges and get rank sign offs completed by the 19th !! Remember, our troop goals of one rank advancement and four merit badges per year !!!Back to top
Wilkommen der new scouts
Brandon and Garrett Koek, returnees from three years in Germany, have joined our troop. Brandon will be a freshman and Garrett starts seventh grade. Both boys were able to attend summer camp to renew old friendships and start new ones. I wonder how scouting in Germany is different than in America???Back to top
Adult Scoutmaster Fundamentals
The council is holding the fall ASF program on two weekends in October. The indoor session runs on Saturday the 7, and the outdoor program follows two weekends later on the 21st and 22nd. All interested adults are encouraged to attend to learn about scout organization and running a good troop program. Forms are available from Bob Williamson or Steve Schmidt. There will be another program taught in the spring.Back to top
Klondike
Troop 10 has volunteered to organize and hold the Eagle District Klondike this winter. Chris Liedkte has (was?) volunteered to head up the program for us and will be enlisting the support of boys and parents very soon.Back to top
Fly with Eagles
Several Eagle projects have been and will be in the works this summer and fall. Devon Cottle is painting the porches at Benincasa, Jim Kanaley is doing lighting and painting work inside the Mendon Library, Nick Dekar is building a deck and ramp in a residence for wheelchair bound people, Chris Monnat is doing a child ID project, and GS Bixler is doing trail building in a park in the village. They will be contacting the boys directly for support on their projects.Back to top
New Calendar of Events/ New Plans
Attached is a calendar of events for the new scouting year. One change is that we will have two regular troop meetings each month, a third week will be patrol meetings, and the fourth week will be set aside for merit badge programs. We expect this to aid us in dealing with a large number of boys and getting more completed merit badges and rank advancements. Each troop meeting will start at 7 PM SHARP. Latecomers will remain outside until the flag ceremony is completed. Boys are to be in class A uniform unless otherwise advised. Your troop leadership, youth and adult, has worked hard this summer to plan a solid program designed to make this year an even greater year of activities, advancement, leadership and skill building.Back to top
Scoutmaster Scribbles
The summer, while too short, too cool and too wet, has been relaxing and enjoyable. It was a good one, wasn't it? One way to keep that spirit alive is to turn to the Scout Slogan: Do a Good Turn Daily. By focusing on helping others you can keep a warm spirit of sunshine even on the bleakest of days. So help that new student; rake that elderly neighbor's leaves; clean up before mom asks; compliment a classmate! Let your sun shine on !!!!!!Back to top
