Jotaree
Instead of a district camporee, this year's activity will be a "Jotaree". The weekend's activities will focus on communications, radio broadcasting and will include HAM radios, morse code and other fun activities. It will take place on October 20-22 at the Honeoye Falls Firemen's Field. Due to our troop campout the last weekend in September & late notification of the Jotaree, we will not participate as a troop. Instead, individual patrols are making arrangements to join this activity.Back to top
Klondike
After attending last year's district Klondike Derby, several Troop 10 boys and adults realized that our troop could do a great job in sponsoring next year's Klondike. So, January 27 is the date for the district event which will be organized by our troop. Chris Leidkte is the adult leader, with Jim Kanaley and Fred Collard helping. Please support them as they ask you for assistance.Back to top
Names please!
Please put your name in indelible ink on all clothing items and camping gear. We recently had to throw out several items that remained unclaimed after several weeks on display in the scout house.Back to top
Holiday Wish Lists
Now is a good time to start making your holiday wish lists. Sleeping bags, tents, boots, and other camp gear make great, useful presents. We usually offer a group purchase from Campmoor just before the holidays. They give us a 10 % discount and we pay no tax! Remember: A Scout is Prepared!!Back to top
Christmas Trees
Again this year we will be selling Christmas Trees at Harry Allen Park for several weekends before the holiday. Charlie Dekar is organizing the activities. All boys and their parents are expected to 'sell' for two or three hours over the course of the two or three weekends. Charlie will put together a list of names with times assigned and it will be the responsibility of each boy and his parents to find replacements if they are not available. This is one of our biggest fundraisers, and also a great way to get into some holiday spirit!!!Back to top
Communications
Several parents have asked that we try to pass out more written information to the boys so their parents get the information before it's too late. This newsletter is another vehicle for communications and there is an easy way to have it published and mailed more regularly than my schedule permits……….a volunteer to prepare it and solicit input………..all you need is a computer, fast fingers, and a little bit of creative spirit………..and you get lots of editorial control !!! No copying or mailing required as other volunteers do that for us. First volunteer gets the position, so call now @ 624-8144 !!!Back to top
Quartermaster
Due to some time conflicts for John and Keith Boarman, we have new quartermasters. Don Knab is our adult QM, Brandon Koek is our youth QM, and David Knab is our first "QM in training". Keith, who claims to know more about equipment than anyone should, will continue to be available for assistance as his schedule permits. Keeping track of our equipment and making repairs to keep things functioning is no small task, so we thank you for stepping up to the challenge!Back to top
Message to New Scouts
To those of you who joined Troop 10 but have not been regularly attending meetings and events: You are still part of our troop and very welcome to come to our meetings and events. Even if you didn't go to summer camp, you will not be far behind many other boys and we'll find plenty of time to help you advance, learn skills and have fun. If you don't have any close buddies in the troop, invite some of your best buds to join you at a meeting or event. So many times I talk to adults who tell me of their wonderful experiences as a boy scout and how much it has shaped their lives…….you really are missing an opportunity if you don't at least try it for 3 or 4 meetings and events before deciding to 'drop scouts' . No matter what, we won't 'drop' you !!Back to top
Scoutmaster Scribbles
We had a great troop campout the last weekend in September. Everyone enjoyed a weather-perfect event in the Finger Lakes National Forest. The boys rode bikes, hiked, cooked, performed skits and sang a few songs. There was lots of learning for both the younger and the older scouts. The youngest were able to learn the strength of teamwork in getting a meal prepared AND CLEANED UP. The older boys learned a few lessons in leadership. A big event like this is one of the high points of scouting. Yet, smaller, patrol campouts can be even greater learning experiences for the boys. All it takes for that type of activity to happen, in someone's backyard, or in a nearby field, is a volunteer to organize it. Do it and "….they will come……" .Back to top
