THANKS TO THE ROTARY……

On Wednesday, January 17th, Mr. Williamson and 8 boys attended the weekly dinner meeting of the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Rotary at The Sherwood. We were invited to represent Troop 10 as a "Thank You" for our participation at the Antique Car Show last October. The boys enjoyed a savory meal, great conversation with the Rotarians, and we told a few stories about our troop and our activities. And there was a curious experiment with a ‘magnetized’ fork and knife that kept us all at full attention. We took the opportunity to thank Rotary for their continued support to Troop 10.

DID YOU KNOW?

There is usually a Board of Review the month/few week before a Court of Awards. We usually have three of those, one in late September, one in December, and one in May. Anyone needing a Board of Review before April/May, should contact a committee member.

SCOUTMASTER SCRIBBLES

You may remember the famous words of John F. Kennedy: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". Likewise, in scouting and in Troop 10, we need YOU in order to be successful. In a few weeks we will be ushering in a new set of youth; leaders, a fresh group of ‘new scouts’ and their eager parents. Every boy needs to be thinking about way position he wants to hold in our troop, where he can lead, develop and grow. And every parent needs to support their son in his commitment to the troop as well as in their own.. I’ll be talking to you, I’m sure!!!!

WOW! REMEMBER THE KLONDIKE

For the 225 Scouts and Scouters participating in the Eagle District 2001 Klondike Derby; A Snow Odyssey on January 27 at Mendon Ponds Park, it was an event to remember! They will remember the 15 skill/challenge events; the GREAT RACE of 18 sleds in fresh snow; the breakfast sandwiches, popcorn, snocones, hot coffee and hot chocolate; The best-in-class organization and event coordination, the excellent winter weather and light snowfall; the fun, challenge and team work; the awards and recognition for a job well done; but most of all they will remember that this year’s Eagle District Klondike as sponsored, organized, and run by TROOP 10!!!!!!!!

All of us can be extremely proud to have put on such a successful and memorable event! While it was possible due to the involvement if just about everyone in the troop, there are few deserving special thanks: A really big THANK YOU to Jimmy Kanaly, Fred Collard and Mr. Liedkte for their superb leadership and organization, and proposing the idea of Troop 10’s sponsorship! To all Event Coordinators, youth and adult, who organized and led such great skill events with enthusiasm and spirit! To Mr. Collard and Mr. Cottle who did a great and helpful job in running our First Aid Station!! To the moms who provided us with tasty sandwiches and treats for lunch!! We are grateful to Mr. Knab and Mr. Koek for keeping us well fed and warm with delicious and savory treats all day long---WOW, what a food tent!!! To the RIT volunteers who did whatever we asked of them, and did it well!!

And to the others who helped in any way to make this a great event, THANK YOU!!!

Let’s not forget too, that our scouts from Troop 10, Pack 10, and Pack 105 brought home more than 10 awards, including 3 First Place Awards.
