MAKE WAY FOR THE CLASS OF 2008 !!!

On Monday, April 9th, we have an opportunity to introduce ourselves to the graduating class of 2008, and their parents. We are planning a NEW SCOUT/PARENT MEETING at 7PM. The only current scouts who need to attend are the existing and the new PLC, SPL and ASPL and troop guides. If you see any of these new scouts and their families around town, please take the time to say HI, and encourage them about scouting.

NO FLORIDA BALLOTS IN TROOP 10!

CAMP RUSSELL SKI WEEKEND

On the weekend of March 2nd, 35 Troop 10 Scouts descended upon BSA Camp Russell near Old Forge, NY for a weekend of winter activities including a day of skiing at McCauley Mountain. The weather was great, the skiing better and a great time was had by all. Many boys completed the skill requirements for the Snow Sports ? downhill skiing merit badge, and a few were even treated by the ski patrol to some wild toboggan rides down the mountain. Once again this year we introduced a boy who had never been on skis to the great sport of downhill skiing ? congratulations to Christoph Knapp who caught on quickly and is well on the way towards achieving his merit badge. We also had a few dads spend the day exploring the mountain trails around the ski center on their cross-country skis. Many thanks to the boys who did the planning for the weekend: Jimmy Kanaley, Fred Collard, Jeff Stewart and Steve Tschiderer all helped out with the pre-planning and/or organization at camp. Also special thanks goes to the boys who spent both nights in the dining hall. You were well behaved, worked well together and got to bed even before lights out ? the highlight of the trip for the dads! And finally, a big thanks to the older boys who helped out in the kitchen and spent time helping out the younger boys on the slopes. This was the spirit of Scouting in action and it was great to watch!

WELCOME CAMPOUT AT MENDON PONDS June 8, 9, 10

The welcome campout is held at Mendon Ponds. This weekend is for the new Scouts just entering Troop 10. The purpose of the weekend is to bridge the void from traditional Cub Scout outings to Boy Scout Patrol camping. This is the younger boy’s first opportunity to plan their own meals and help prepare their food. The weekend planning is supervised and led by older scouts. This year’s Senior Patrol Leader for the weekend is Byron Liedtke and assisted by many older scouts. The adult advisor for the weekend is Chris Liedtke, Assistant Scout Master, and Tom Dooley, Cub Scout Liaison and Committee Person. Contact Byron Liedtke, Mr. Liedtke, Mr. Dooley, or Mr. Ogden, Camping Coordinator, 624-7516.

MERIT BADGE INFORMATION

Several scouts have been working very hard to complete the three Citizenship badges under the direction of Mr. Ogden, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, and Citizenship in the Community. These are challenging badges to work on, and the scouts are to be congratulated for sticking with it. Any Scouts who have started these Badges and need to complete them, pleas contact Mr. Ogden or be at the LAST make-up class on April 2nd at 6PM at the Scout House.

A group of boys participated in an Archeology Badge at the Rochester Science and Museum Center last Saturday and Sunday. (Yeah, but, dig through our garbage can?!) Thanks to Mr. Dooley for coordinating this. As well, Mr. Dooley will be leading a group through a Geology Badge on April 7th and 8th. Super effort and enthusiasm!!

There will be an updated list of Merit Badge counselors posted with Troop 10’s leadership as counselors in highlighted text, on the bulletin board at the Scout House. Check it out for badges you may be interested in doing. It might be a great break from the Playstation/Nintendo/MTV…..Try it..You’ll like it!!

BIKE TOUR FOR DIABETES

Mr. Rea is organizing any scouts who are interested in participating in this bike tour for a very worthwhile charity. Rumor has it, that they are going to go for the 100 mile option this year. Who ever you are, don’t think of this as a Sunday afternoon drive in the park—endurance training starts April 21 at noon at Mendon Park. Call Mr Rea for more information. This can be part of your Biking Merit Badge!! Go for the Gold!!

SCOUTMASTER SCRIBBLES

Whenever I read articles in the school publications in our local newspapers, regarding events and student recognition, I am always impressed to see the names of so many boys from Troop 10 listed as achievers! From sports, music, foreign language, math, to musicals and dramatic performances, there is always a good representation of boys from our troop among those being recognized. You are a very accomplished, not to mention, busy, and group! Congratulations to all who join and are active in the various groups and activities!
