SIGN UP QUICK! CAMP RUSSELL!
The weekend of March 15-17 is our trip to Camp Russell, MacCauley Mountain and Old Forge! We will depart the Scout House around 5 or 6 PM on Friday, and return around 1 or 2 PM on Sunday. Once again, we will stay at the Camp Russell dining hall, a heated facility where we sleep on tables and benches. Saturday will be a day of skiing at MacCauley Mountain in Old Forge followed by an obligatory trip to the famous hardware store. Adam W. will have sign up sheets available at the next few meetings. This year the costs will be $17 for ski pass (an increase form $12 last year!). Still to be confirmed are equipment rental rates, expected to be $10 for skis and $6 for Sled Dogs. The camping fee is $2 and food costs (2 breakfasts, one dinner on Saturday) will be $12. All of this information will be on the sign up sheets but book the date on you calendars NOW so you don't miss this great trip to Camp Russell. Cross country skiing, hiking and snow shoeing can also be available for those not wanting to slide down the hills. Also, contact Mr. Stewart if you want to work on the Snow Sports Merit badge, which can be completed during the trip. See you at MacCauley Mountain!!Back to top
COURT OF AWARDS HONORS A SPECIAL SUPPORTER OF TROOP 10! MR. WILLIAM MANTEGNA
A very special recognition award was presented to a long time member and supporter of Troop 10 at the December Court of Awards. During the summer, Mrs. Luann Bixler knitted a red, white and blue Afghan to be used as a prize for the September 15th Golf Tournament. The gift was presented to the troop a day or two before the event, which happened to be just a couple of days after the tragic events of September 11th. The combination of the patriotic theme, the beautiful handiwork and the sense of duty and patriotism we all felt at that time led the troop leadership to do something more remarkable with the gift. The golf tournament had no shortage of prizes yet we had a fantastic symbol of patriotism, service, remembrance and honor, which demanded a more appropriate presentation. Mr. William Mantegna is a Troop 10 Eagle Scout, a long term resident and business owner in Honeoye Falls, a veteran, and a man who embodies a life of scouting Spirit. So it was with great honor and appreciation that Mr. Williamson, together with our newest Troop 10 Eagle Scout, GS Bixler, and his father, presented the red, white and blue Afghan to Mr. Mantegna for his duty and service to our country, our community and our troop.Back to top
DECEMBER COOK-OFF
At the last troop meeting of the year, the patrols used their creative genius, fire building talents and cooking skills in a Dessert Cook Off competition. Delicious desserts were found all around the Scout House, from Apple Crisps, to Black Forest Cakes, Upside Down Cakes, to Ice Cream (the non-cooked variety). The patrols demonstrated great skills and lots of scout spirit! Congratulations to all for a great finish to the year and a fun way to celebrate the monthly theme-cooking!!!Back to top
ADDRESS LISTS UPDATED!
At the last meeting of 2001 an updated troop address/telephone list was made available to those present. You can pick one up at the next meeting or contact Cam J. for an e-mailed version. Thanks to Cam and Fred C. and if you have updates or corrections please contact them.Back to top
PLC CELEBRATES A GREAT START TO THE SCOUTING YEAR!
The Patrol Leader's Council meeting in January (first Sunday, 5 PM), is a celebration of good work by the team in 2001. The meeting will take place at Pizza Agerola in Mendon where the boys will be rewarded for their dedication and teamwork, which resulted in a great troop program this year. As the scoutmaster has told us, the PLC meeting is like homework: it is a requirement if you want to do well in class and learn something. All of us who have participated in troop meetings and events can testify that the 'homework' was done well and the PLC made good grades this marking period! Congratulations to all!Back to top
SCOUTMASTER SCRIBBLES
You know how a compass, no matter how many times you turn it, twist it, or carry it over distances, always returns to its center, its magnetic north. The earth's magnetic pull somehow always gets the compass arrow to return to its ‘home’, pointing us to the north. This handy tool keeps us from getting lost when we get disoriented or when we just don't know where we are. What about your personal compass, that part of you that determines your direction? Do you have that same natural strength and personal commitment to always return to your own 'magnetic north'? To know where you are, or how to get back on track to find your direction?Back to top
