SCOUTMASTER SCRIBBLES

So the first day of this month is commonly known as April Fool's Day! And we can all try to do some silly things to play jokes on people, make others laugh and try to get away with being the "joker" and not the "jokee"! But for the 364 OTHER days of the year, we want to make sure we are not the FOOL, right? Maybe the best way to do that is to follow the Scout Motto: BE PREPARED. Do your homework. Practice. Rehearse. Think through what might happen and then have a plan just in case something goes unplanned. Be confident that you can handle any situation, because you've done your homework, you've practiced and rehearsed and considered the possibilities. Hey, you never know, if you are PREPARED you may even foil the best of the "jokers" out there on April First!

EAGLE CEREMONIES

Between now and the end of the Scouting year there will be at least three Eagle Ceremonies for Troop 10. Erik, G.S. and Nick have all passed their Eagle Boards of Review and will be scheduling their Eagle Ceremonies sometime in late April, May or June. Attending an Eagle Ceremony is a high point for all Scouts and we hope that our newest members can attend at least one of the ceremonies if not all. Be sure to wear a complete uniform, well pressed and properly button/tucked for these Court of Honor Ceremonies. You will be receiving information on dates, times and locations very soon!

JUNIOR LEADER TRAINING CONFERENCES

The Council will be offering three JLTC (Junior Leader Training Conferences) this summer at Cutler. The dates are: July 14 to 20, July 21 to 27 and August 4 to 10. Attendance is by Scoutmaster invitation and requirements include 13 years of age, First Class Scout or above, and demonstration of Scout Spirit and Leadership. The cost of the program is borne by the troop and our boys have reported the programs to be fun, high learning and good skill building. This program is a requirement for boys wishing to pursue higher level leadership roles in the troop, such as ASPL and SPL and the program provides the boy with skills and development for future troop success. Please talk to Mr. Williamson if you are interested in participating this summer.

ACTIVITIES FOR PATROLS

The Rochester Rhinos are offering two Scout Nights this 2002 season. Friday May 31 and Saturday August 24 are the dates. Tickets for scout patrols are $ 11 for Upper End and $ 9 for lower end. Boys receive a Scout Night Patch and the unit selling the most tickets to the game will be invited to hold the Colors and their Unit Flag for the National Anthem before the game. Patrol leaders and Troop Guides see Adam or Mr. Williamson for details.

Roseland Waterpark in Canandaigua is offering a Scout Night at the waterpark this summer. Scouts can spend the night on cots or in their own tents, swim in the wave pool in the evening, and sit around a giant campfire. The dates are July 13, 15, 17 or 19 and the cost is $ 17 for scouts and leaders. Family and friends can join for the day for the same price (camping for scouts and leaders only). Again, contact Adam or Mr. Williamson for further information. This could be a really fun patrol activity this summer!

Logo Designers Needed

We have decided to have a logo created to commemorate the Troop's 90th anniversary. Volunteers are needed to design and submit entries for judging by the 90th Committee. We plan to use this logo throughout the year probably starting at Massewepie in 2002. Guidelines will be provided at the next meeting. Some initial ideas for the use of the logo are class B's, neckerchiefs, shoulder patch, documents, the Troop Website, special flag, and banner. Start thinking of designs and stay tuned for guidelines at upcoming Troop meetings.

We are still looking for some volunteers for the 90th Celebration Committee. Both scouts and adults are needed. If you have any questions, comments or would like to volunteer please contact Mr. Dooley.

CLASS A UNIFORMS

A Class A uniform is the standard beige Boy Scout shirt (long or short sleeves are ok) TUCKED IN, with neckerchief, neckerchief slide, and all badges and ensignias properly displayed. There is a guide in the front page of the Scout book on where to place the badges and ensignias. A proper uniform, clean, well pressed and tucked in, is a great sign of Scout Spirit!

MASSAWEPIE 2002

This year's trip is really starting to come together! Some things to keep in mind as we get closer and closer to July:

1. The merit badge and registration programs have been experiencing some difficulties, but they will be back up soon. Please continue to register and sign up. The sooner we get the info from you, the better your chances will be of getting what you want!
2. April 8th, your permission slips are due. Please remember to put the scouts name on them somewhere.
3. April 29th, your balances of $130.00 are due. Please get that money to me on or before April 29th!
4. The packet is almost complete. Look for it early April!
5. Finally, we are in the process of setting up a time for the Massawepie swim test. It will be at the HFL high school pool. Please listen closely in the coming weeks for that date and time.

Things are going well! I think this year will prove to be the best one yet! Thank you all for your help and cooperation!

CAMP RUSSELL REPORT

For all the scouts who didn't make it out to Camp Russell this year they missed an excellent weekend of fun on McCauley Mountain. The skiing conditions on the left side of the mountain were fairly icy in the morning but became reasonable once it warmed up later in the day. On the right side on the mountain, many of the scouts could be found in the terrain park pulling jaw-dropping eye-catching captivating aerial tricks. Everyone walked away from the slope unharmed except for a few broken bones (just kidding) and plenty of stories for when they would arrive back home. We had some newcomers on the trip this year, one might expect they might need a full day of lessons, but once we showed them the basics they were cruising as fast as anyone else, even going off some jumps. My guess is they will be beating me down the slope next year if they continue to progress so fast!

Eventually the day of skiing came to an end, but the fun didn't end there. Once arriving back at camp many of the scouts could be found playing various card games and tricks. Once curfew came about, the scouts retired to their sleeping bags. Only for some of the more daring scouts, their sleeping bags were outside in the lean-tos where it was quite cold, but not for these scouts who had the right equipment. All in all, in this editor's opinion it was quite a successful scout outing as it is every year, hopefully next year we will see more scouts there.
